From there, Trump will head to Egypt in the afternoon and be a part of the peace ceremony at 2:30 p.m. local time in the coastal resort area of Sharm el-Sheikh.<\/p>\n<p>Last Wednesday, Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/policy\/international\/5546213-trump-announces-israel-hamas-ceasefire\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">announced Israel and Hamas<\/a> had reached an agreement to release the remaining Israeli hostages and stop the fighting in Gaza.<\/p>\n<p>The president said Israel and Hamas had backed \u201cthe first Phase\u201d of a peace plan announced in late September, a notable reprieve to stop a war that had gone on for more than two years since Hamas attacked Israel on Oct. 7, 2023. The attack killed around 1,200 people, and more than 250 hostages were taken.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis means that ALL of the Hostages will be released very soon, and Israel will withdraw their Troops to an agreed upon line as the first steps toward a Strong, Durable, and Everlasting Peace. All Parties will be treated fairly!\u201d Trump said on Truth Social.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a GREAT Day for the Arab and Muslim World, Israel, all surrounding Nations, and the United States of America, and we thank the mediators from Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey, who worked with us to make this Historic and Unprecedented Event happen. BLESSED ARE THE PEACEMAKERS!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Israel\u2019s war in Gaza has also killed thousands of Palestinians, left the territory in a humanitarian crisis and resulted in mass infrastructure destruction.
