{"id":936,"date":"2025-10-02T15:09:47","date_gmt":"2025-10-02T15:09:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/globaltaalenthq.com\/?p=936"},"modified":"2025-10-06T09:12:26","modified_gmt":"2025-10-06T09:12:26","slug":"colorado-mountain-closes-indefinitely-after-driver-ignores-warnings-gets-stuck","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/globaltaalenthq.com\/index.php\/2025\/10\/02\/colorado-mountain-closes-indefinitely-after-driver-ignores-warnings-gets-stuck\/","title":{"rendered":"Colorado mountain closes indefinitely after driver ignores warnings, gets stuck"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>DENVER (<a href=\"https:\/\/kdvr.com\/news\/local\/black-bear-pass-closed-indefinitely-after-south-carolina-driver-ignores-warnings\/\">KDVR<\/a>) \u2014 Authorities say a man from South Carolina drove a Kia Telluride up a popular road in Colorado&#8217;s Black Bear Pass on Wednesday and got stuck, leading to a closure of the pass.<\/p>\n<p>The San Miguel County Sheriff&#8217;s Office said that until a tow can make it into the area, the roadway will remain closed because the SUV is unstable and it is not safe to be driven around.<\/p>\n<p>Black Bear Road is a well-known roadway that closes each winter due to the weather and is used as an overlanding trail for Jeep and other off-roading enthusiasts. The roadway starts at the summit of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.telluride.com\/activity\/black-bear-pass\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Red Mountain Pass on Highway 550 and peaks at Black Bear Pass<\/a>, which has an elevation of 12,840 feet, according to local tourist agencies.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-jetpack-slideshow aligncenter\" data-effect=\"slide\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-jetpack-slideshow_container swiper-container\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-jetpack-slideshow_swiper-wrapper swiper-wrapper\">\n<li class=\"wp-block-jetpack-slideshow_slide swiper-slide\">\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"540\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-block-jetpack-slideshow_image wp-image-3573029\" data-id=\"3573029\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-block-jetpack-slideshow_caption gallery-caption\">A Kia Telluride is stuck on Black Bear Road near Bridal Veil Falls. The Kia got stuck at about three to four switchbacks past the falls when the driver managed to get his wheels off the side of the road, leaving the SUV unstable.<\/p>\n<p>The agency said that despite people in the area advising the South Carolina driver not to drive the SUV up the roadway, he persisted.<\/p>\n<p>According to the town of Telluride, Black Bear Pass <a href=\"https:\/\/www.telluride.com\/activity\/black-bear-pass\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">does not permit rental vehicles. <\/a><\/p>\n<p>At this point, Bridal Veil Road is closed up to the falls, just past the parking lot, which prevents access to the Via Ferrata climbing route.
