The Taliban on Sunday rejected President Trump\u2019s push<\/a> to regain control<\/a> of Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan, saying the U.S. should adopt \u201ca policy of realism and rationality.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cIt has been consistently communicated to the United States in all bilateral negotiations that, for the Islamic Emirate, Afghanistan\u2019s independence and territorial integrity are of the utmost importance,\u201d Taliban deputy spokesperson Hamdullah Fitrat said in an official statement<\/a> posted on the social platform X.<\/p>\n He noted the Taliban \u201cseeks constructive relations with all state on the basis of mutual and shared interests.\u201d<\/p>\n Fitrat pointed to U.S. commitments under the Doha agreement \u2014 which Trump aides negotiated in his first term to end the U.S. presence in Afghanistan \u2014 not to \u201cuse or threaten force against the territorial integrity or political independence of Afghanistan, nor interfere in its internal affairs.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cIt is necessary that they remain faithful to their commitments,\u201d Fitrat said. \u201cAccordingly, it is once again underscored that, rather than repeating past failed approaches, a policy of realism and rationality should be adopted.\u201d<\/p>\n Trump in recent days has suggested the U.S. wants to wrest back control of Bagram Air Base.<\/p>\n
