Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-Fla.) on Thursday said TikTok has complied with her request to remove footage of Charlie Kirk\u2019s shooting on the campus of Utah Valley University, which occurred in front of a crowd of approximately 3,000. <\/p>\n

\u201cI have just received word from TikTok that they will be removing the horrific videos of Charlie Kirk\u2019s final moments,\u201d Luna wrote in a statement<\/a> on the social platform X.<\/p>\n

\u201cThank you, TikTok. I have also asked them to take down content that uses this horrific incident to incite violence against others,\u201d she continued.<\/p>\n

TikTok did not immediately respond to The Hill\u2019s request for comment on the matter.<\/p>\n

However, Luna said the social platform sent a statement to her that read, \u201cWe are saddened by the assassination of Charlie Kirk and send our deepest condolences to his wife Erika, their two young children, and their family and friends.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThese horrific violent acts have no place in our society. We remain committed to proactively enforcing our Community Guidelines and have implemented additional safeguards to prevent people from unexpectedly viewing footage that violates our rules,” the statement added.<\/p>\n

Updates to TikTok\u2019s community guidelines are set to go into effect Saturday morning as the social outlet said it aims to \u201cinspire creativity and bring joy\u201d to users.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In order to create a culture of \u201csafety and civility,\u201d TikTok reminded users that violent or criminal behavior, hate speech, harassment and bullying are not allowed, and that it will remove content that violates its standards. <\/p>\n

The update comes after a Wednesday message from Luna, who put out a public request<\/a> for TikTok; Elon Musk, the owner of the social platform X; and Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg to remove \u201chorrifying\u201d videos of Kirk\u2019s murder.<\/p>\n

The Florida lawmaker said Kirk\u2019s family should not be \u201cforced to relive this tragedy online.\u201d<\/p>\n

Luna is currently working to erect a statue in honor of the Turning Point USA founder inside the Capitol. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
