Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said Sunday that air travel will be \u201creduced to a trickle\u201d before Thanksgiving if the government shutdown<\/a> continues.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s only going to get worse,\u201d Duffy told CNN\u2019s Jake Tapper on “State of the Union<\/a>.” \u201cI look to the two weeks before Thanksgiving, you\u2019re going to see air travel be reduced to a trickle.”<\/p>\n \u201cWe have a number of people who want to get home for the holidays, they want to see their family, they want to celebrate this great American holiday,” he added. “Listen, many of them are not going to be able to get on an airplane.\u201d<\/p>\n Last week, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) directed all commercial airlines<\/a> to reduce flights by 4 percent starting Friday<\/a>. If the shutdown does not end, the cuts will increase to 6 percent by Nov. 11, 8 percent by Nov. 13 and 10 percent by Nov. 14.<\/p>\n The agency also directed 40 \u201chigh traffic\u201d airports to temporarily scale back flights<\/a> by 10 percent.\u00a0<\/p>\n
