{"id":1490,"date":"2025-10-30T19:15:36","date_gmt":"2025-10-30T20:15:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/globaltaalenthq.com\/?p=1490"},"modified":"2025-11-03T09:10:51","modified_gmt":"2025-11-03T09:10:51","slug":"some-senators-stranded-in-dc-because-of-government-shutdown","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/globaltaalenthq.com\/index.php\/2025\/10\/30\/some-senators-stranded-in-dc-because-of-government-shutdown\/","title":{"rendered":"Some senators stranded in DC because of government shutdown"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Some senators are finding themselves stranded in Washington, D.C., at the end of the Senate workweek because of delays at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport linked to the monthlong government shutdown.<\/p>\n<p>The Senate held its last vote of the week at 1:35 pm Thursday and, as usual, senators raced out of the Capitol to catch their flights home for the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>But some lawmakers were in for a rude awakening when they discovered that their flights have been\u00a0delayed because\u00a0of the shutdown that has put a severe strain on air traffic controllers around the country, including at National Airport.<\/p>\n<p>Senate Majority Leader\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/people\/john-thune\/\">John Thune\u00a0<\/a>(R-S.D.) revealed to reporters that he would be stuck in D.C.\u00a0longer than expected\u00a0because of the turmoil at National Airport and warned that flight problems are likely to get worse in the days and weeks ahead.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m delayed,\u201d\u00a0Thune told reporters when asked if he was impacted by the traffic snarl.<\/p>\n<p>The Federal Aviation Administration issued a ground delay at National Airport on Thursday because of \u201cstaffing\u201d issues, although it lifted the hold by the afternoon.
