{"id":1473,"date":"2025-10-28T18:07:34","date_gmt":"2025-10-28T19:07:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/globaltaalenthq.com\/?p=1473"},"modified":"2025-11-03T09:10:50","modified_gmt":"2025-11-03T09:10:50","slug":"openai-completes-restructuring-signs-new-agreement-with-microsoft","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/globaltaalenthq.com\/index.php\/2025\/10\/28\/openai-completes-restructuring-signs-new-agreement-with-microsoft\/","title":{"rendered":"OpenAI completes restructuring, signs new agreement with Microsoft"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>OpenAI has completed a restructuring of the company, converting <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/ap\/ap-business\/ap-openai-says-it-has-new-for-profit-business-structure-adjusts-partnership-with-microsoft\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">its for-profit arm<\/a> into a public benefit corporation and giving its nonprofit a controlling stake, the <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/policy\/technology\/5543101-chatgpt-ai-deepseek-russia-china\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ChatGPT maker announced<\/a> Tuesday.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It also <a href=\"https:\/\/openai.com\/index\/next-chapter-of-microsoft-openai-partnership\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">signed a new agreement<\/a> with Microsoft, a major investor in the AI firm that now holds a 27 percent stake in the company.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOpenAI has completed its recapitalization, simplifying its corporate structure,\u201d said Bret Taylor, chair of the OpenAI board of directors, <a href=\"https:\/\/openai.com\/index\/built-to-benefit-everyone\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">in a blog post<\/a>.\u00a0\u201cThe nonprofit remains in control of the for-profit, and now has a direct path to major resources before AGI arrives.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The AI firm initially detailed plans last December to restructure the company and remove the nonprofit&#8217;s control over the for-profit arm. However, it ultimately walked back this plan in May, announcing the nonprofit would retain control following discussions with civic leaders and state officials.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Under the restructuring announced Tuesday, the nonprofit now called the OpenAI Foundation will hold a stake worth about $130 billion, or 26 percent of the company. It can receive additional ownership as the for-profit company\u2019s valuation grows.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Taylor underscored that this makes it \u201cone of the best resourced philanthropic organizations ever.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe more OpenAI succeeds as a company, the more the non-profit\u2019s equity stake will be worth, which the non-profit will use to fund its philanthropic work,\u201d he added.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Microsoft deal, also announced Tuesday, will retain the close partnership between the two companies, with some key changes. \u00a0Microsoft will now have intellectual property rights for OpenAI\u2019s models and products through 2032, including post-artificial general intelligence (AGI) models. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>AGI refers to technology that can achieve humanlike intelligence.
