Musk\u2019s version is backed by xAI but still uses Wikipedia as a source on most subjects. The subsections and citations on Grokipedia resemble that of its predecessor but refrain from reporting on topics critical of Musk, its maker.\u00a0<\/p>\n
For example, no mention of his gesture resembling a Nazi salute<\/a> made on stage during a celebration of President Trump\u2019s inauguration or ties to the development of toxic waste<\/a> spread at data center for xAI in Memphis, Tenn., could be found in the search engine.\u00a0<\/p>\n The site offers 885,279 articles so far.\u00a0<\/p>\n It\u2019s the fruition of an effort first announced<\/a> in late September with the goal of developing a \u201cmassive improvement over Wikipedia,\u201d Musk previously wrote<\/a> in a post on the social platform X.<\/p>\n In the past, he\u2019s called the site \u201cWokipedia\u201d following similar accusations<\/a> from GOP lawmakers in Congress and White House AI czar David Sacks, who slammed the site as \u201chopelessly biased.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cAn army of left-wing activists maintain the bios and fight reasonable corrections,\u201d Sacks alleged on X. \u201cMagnifying the problem, Wikipedia often appears first in Google search results, and now it\u2019s a trusted source for AI model training. This is a huge problem.\u201d <\/p>\n However, The Wikimedia Foundation, the nonprofit that operates Wikipedia, defended itself from those claims last month in a statement that said, \u201cWikipedia informs; it does not persuade.\u201d <\/p>\n Lauren Dickinson, a spokesperson for the Wikimedia Foundation, doubled down on those remarks Monday. <\/p>\n \u201cUnlike newer projects, Wikipedia\u2019s strengths are clear: it has transparent policies, rigorous volunteer oversight, and a strong culture of continuous improvement. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, written to inform billions of readers without promoting a particular point of view,\u201d Dickinson said in a statement reported by The Verge<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cWikipedia\u2019s knowledge is \u2013 and always will be \u2013 human.
