President Trump on Monday said he would impose a 25 percent tariff on medium- and heavy-duty trucks coming into the United States starting Nov. 1.<\/p>\n

The announcement, which Trump made on Truth Social, both delays and expands a tariff he announced<\/a> in late September.<\/p>\n

Trump posted on Truth Social on Sept. 25 that \u201cHeavy (Big!) Trucks\u201d made outside the United States would be subject to a 25 percent tariff beginning Oct. 1. But those tariffs were never formally imposed.<\/p>\n

Trump has framed the tariffs as a way to protect the trucking industry, which is critical to moving goods around the United States.<\/p>\n

The president has previously announced tariffs on automobile imports, steel and aluminum, copper, furniture and other goods. He has also announced steep tariffs on imported pharmaceuticals, only for the White House to say they are being delayed amid negotiations<\/a> with drugmakers.<\/p>\n

In addition, Trump has imposed sweeping tariffs on imports from dozens of other countries. Those tariffs are the subject of a court challenge the Supreme Court is set to review<\/a>.<\/p>\n

While Trump has argued the tariffs are intended to return manufacturing to the United States, experts have warned the tariffs will lead to price increases that will be passed onto consumers.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
